Men's Rings

The attraction toward bodily adornments is not a matter exclusive to women. Historically, in fact, kings and princes the world over have adorned themselves with various precious metals to indicate wealth and power. Men who ruled in the ancient times turned to several types of precious stones to make jewelry items out of them.

Centuries later, men have continued to use jewelry to express affluence. In some cases, however, men's jewelry pieces connote personal significance.

Men's Rings For Special Occasions

Tradition tells us that rings are normally used for rare or special events such as weddings, engagements and anniversaries. Gold became the most preferred metal for a man's wedding ring. Wedding rings that are made of gold especially for men reached the height of popularity during the World War II period. The gold element in these men's rings ranged from 9 to 18 karats.

Except for sports rings or fraternal rings, bachelors do not usually wear gold rings as much as married men do. Gold rings for men come in varied prices according to design, size and purity of gold used. Moreover, men's gold rings are expected to be pricier when they are added with precious or semi-precious stones. According to jewellers, however, pure gold is not a prime choice for men since it is a naturally soft metal.

For engagements, men's rings are adorned with a few embellishments. In most cases, a stone the middle part serves as the main attraction in these types of men's rings. The precious stone can be coral, ruby, aquamarine, emerald, tourmaline, topaz, sapphire, garnet, jade or beryl. In deciding upon the best type of stone to ornament men's rings, owners usually go for their birthstones.

Men's Rings As Gift Ideas

In the modern times, men's rings have evolved from being exclusive ornaments for specific occasions, to great gift ideas for everyday use. Men's rings have become a way to express individuality and are reflective of their wearers' personalities.

Additionally, there are men's rings which have one black onyx stone set at the middle part. For men, wearing rings that have onyx in them signifies power and strength. Among others, men go for 9-karat or 14-carat gold rings accented with a single onyx.

Appearance-wise, men's rings are usually thicker in size, and wider than rings worn by women. Men's rings tend to be much simpler, too. Men opt to wear rings that are made from a single metal, such as gold, platinum, silver or titanium. For some who prefer otherwise, there are also two-toned men's rings. These types of men's rings are essentially mixed with other metals to create a different but more striking look.

While the designs and styles of men's rings vary widely, most modern men prefer their rings to be free from gems or precious stones, as opposed to men of past eras who intentionally wanted their rings and other jewelry items to be heaved with several huge and precious stones. Also, engravings in men's rings are becoming strikingly popular. Rings that are engraved – with names and other designs – are gaining wide attention, and have become a statement for wearers. Men may also opt to have their rings customized in many jewelry shops.

Generally, the price of men's rings is mainly dependent upon the type of metal used, or the stone that serves as its main attraction.

Choosing men's rings entail considerable time. Besides appearance, comfort and durability should be prime factors when purchasing men's rings. Experts suggest that men should try a ring on before deciding to buy it. Similarly, men are advised to consider their everyday activities prior to buying rings – those who are engaged in sports or other rough activities should take rings that are of better strength.

The life span of men's rings depends on the jewelry item's composition as much as it does on the care that owners exercise in wearing them. A general rule is to take rings off when doing rigorous work, such as physical labor or gardening. To prevent men's rings from wearing out, they should be taken off when exercising or working out, during swimming and when engaging in sports. While it may sound tedious for men, it is best to keep rings safe in ring holders when they are not being used, to keep it from being susceptible to wear and tear.
