The Right Ring For Her |
| Once the question has been popped, the big day has been set and plans are under way, one of the more important things to plan is the selection and purchase of the wedding rings. Unlike engagement rings that are best presented as a surprise, women’s wedding rings should be selected carefully and with the full consent of the blooming bride.
|
The Metal |
|
For one, the ring is an eternal symbol of love and promise. It should last a lifetime and surpass the fading flashes of fashion. It should be able to withstand the test of time and the wear of daily use. For this reason, couples looking at gold bands should consider that a ring of 14 karats is the most resilient. This is because rings with higher karats are softer and more prone to scratches. Likewise, silver rings are also liable to scratch and fade thus requiring constant cleaning. Platinum rings are the most durable but keep in mind that this precious metal is more expensive than gold and silver.

The Motif |

Wedding rings come in twos. Choose a style that would complement each other. Women’s wedding rings usually have the larger stone between the pair. There are several styles to choose from.
The most popular is the solitaire ring, which is mounted with a large diamond (or other preferred gem) that may be wrapped with smaller stones.
A channel set or eternity ring, embedded with diamonds all the way around, is less popular especially for those who enjoy active lifestyles.
Etruscan designs add funk with their ancient designs that allow the designer to play with the embossed and embedded.
Even the simple and conventional wedding bands can be studded with diamonds through flush set designs that allow wearers to wear bling while maintaining the smooth round style.

Diamonds are a girl’s best friend and the wife-to-be certainly deserves more than just a piece of metal stuck to her finger for all eternity. Cut, clarity, color and carat weight are all important factors in deciding the right ring for her.
Cut pertains to the shape, depth, proportion and polish of the diamond. It’s also good to keep in mind the proportion of the diamond to the size and thickness of the ring.
Clarity measures the brilliance of a diamond as its being clear allows more light to pass through. A clear diamond can compensate for the lack of luster in the metal of women’s wedding rings.
Although Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez’s engagement did not lead to marital bliss, the pink engagement ring symbolized has definitely left its mark on designers and couples. Other diamond colors include blue, black, red, yellow, and, of course, white. Given the right budget, women’s wedding rings can be quite colorful. A white diamond, for example, can attain a dramatic effect by surrounding it with small yellow diamonds.
Although carat doesn’t necessarily mean quality, most couples prefer larger diamonds. Mariah Carey’s 10-carat whopper from current hubby Nick Cannon, for one, is big and bulky, great for those who prefer flashy attention-grabbing diamonds.

Another important factor to consider when selecting women’s wedding rings is the shape of the ring. Here, the most important factor would largely be comfort. Remember that this ring will be worn every day for eternity (or until the divorce papers are settled). Adjustable rings are suggested especially if the women in the family tend to grow larger with age. Eating and exercise habits should also be taken into consideration. If the bride is thinking of wearing her engagement ring together with her wedding ring, the same type should be selected.
Comfort Fit wedding rings have an oval cross-section and smooth rounded edges. They are a relatively new style with the inner lining slightly concaving.
The Half-Round is the traditional band whose centerpiece is slightly raised. The outer circumference is rounded but the thickness near the stone makes the inner circumference flat. Hence it is named.
Flat Pipe wedding rings are simple proportionate designs which can be embedded with diamonds or rimmed with stylish depressions or embosses. This is great for couples who prefer more austere shapes.
The Squared-Bottom was designed to give wedded couples more comfort. Its flat bottom makes it easier to rest the palm face down.

As mentioned earlier and as with most things in life, bigger budgets means more options. When allotting money for women’s wedding rings, remember that this is a one-time yet long-lasting purchase. So, it’s okay to go a little over budget as long as the payments for it don’t last longer than the marriage.
