Caring For Your Diamonds

Being Careful

Diamonds are the hardest natural mineral known to man. Diamonds have a hardness level of 10 on the Mohs scale of relative mineral hardness. Though a diamond is the hardest substance known to man a hit to the girdle area can cause a diamond to chip or even crack. Having your diamond set in a secure setting and being careful with your hand movements your diamond will be protected. Here are some other points to note. Don't wear your diamond when playing sports. Don't mix your diamond jewelry with other diamond jewelry, this may cause them to scratch each other. Sky Facet recommends once a year, to have your diamond cleaned and have each of the settings checked for security.

Cleaning Your Diamond

Diamonds get hazy, greasy, and smudged by makeup, lotions, soap and even your own natural skin oils. Using the diamond cleaner that is given with your purchase is the easiest way to remove the dirt from your diamond. Another way to clean your diamond is to dip your diamond jewelry into a cup of half water and half ammonia for about 30 minutes. This will loosen the dirt, and gently brush the jewelry with a soft tooth brush.
