What Is a Diamond Certificate?
A diamond certificate also known as a "cert" is a fully detailed report by a diamond grading laboratory about a diamond and its characteristics. A diamond is analyzed by graduated gemologists by high powered magnification and proper lighting and is graded by its cut, color, clarity, proportions, finish, symmetry and other characteristics.

There are quite a few diamond laboratories that grade diamonds but Sky Facet works only with the three most recognized gem laboratories in the world. The Gemological Institute of America (GIA), European Gemological Laboratory (EGL), and the American Gem Society Laboratories (AGS) are the most internationally recognized diamond laboratories.
Is a Gemological Laboratory Certificate Necessary?
A diamond grading report is necessary because it reveals all the specifications of a diamond. Though some diamonds can have the same color, cut, clarity, and carat weight no two diamonds are identical. Diamond reports are the only way consumers can have documented verification of a diamonds specifications. This gives the consumer the chance to know the difference between diamonds that have the same 4cs. A diamond certificate also plays a big part as official proof for replacement value in a diamond engagement ring appraisal.
