Diamond Cut Guide
The Cut of the diamond determines not only the shape, but also; the amount of fiery brilliance and sparkle seen when looking at a diamond. Important characteristics of the cut like the depth, width and the placement of the facets determine the amount of reflective sparkle and fire within the diamond. |
|
|
Shallow Cut Diamond: When a diamond is shallow cut, some light is lost through the bottom of the diamond, causing a lack of brilliance from shining through the diamond.
Deep Cut: When a diamond is deep cut, the diamond loses brilliance because light escapes from all sides of a diamond, as a result of this, the diamond may appear dark and lifeless.
Ideal Cut: : Ideal Cut diamonds offer superior grades of polish and symmetry. This cut allows fire and brilliance to shine through every cut of the diamond because of the perfect symmetry and polish.

Anatomy of a Diamond |
Diameter:The width of a diamond as measured through the girdle. |

|
Table: The largest facet of a gemstone, it is a flat surface on the top of a gemstone. |
| Crown: The upper portion of a diamond reaching from the table to above the girdle. |
| Girdle: The slim edge around the widest part of a diamond that separates the crown and pavilion. |
| Pavilion: The underside of a diamond that is between the girdle and culet. |
| Culet: The small facet located in the bottom tip of the pavilion. |
Depth: The height of a gemstone, measured from the culet to the table.

Polish and Symmetry |
Polish and Symmetry have a noticeable amount of influence in the cutting process. Symmetry refers to the balance of facets on a diamond. Variations in symmetry can affect the brilliance of a diamond. Poor Symmetry affects the way fire and light passes through a diamond. Polish refers to the smoothness of facets on a diamond. Poor polish may not only make facets look dull it may even dull the sparkle and fire of a diamond. For the most beautiful diamond, look for a symmetry grade of excellent (EX), very good (VG), or good (G) for a GIA graded diamond, and ideal (ID), excellent (EX), very good (VG), or good (G) for an AGSL graded diamond. Avoid diamonds with symmetry grades of fair (F) or poor (P), The alignment of their facets can misdirect light negatively, which affects the brilliance and fire of the diamond. Please note Sky Facet rejects all diamonds with cuts of Fair and Poor.
