Asscher Cut : |
An asscher cut is very similar to an emerald cut it has a pavilion and wide step facets with a square octagon look to it. |

Bar Channel Setting : |
Metal walls that are directly across each other that tightly position a gemstone by two sides. |
|
Bezel Setting : |
A metal border that surrounds a stone by the girdle. The upper portion of the bezel is bent to secure the security of the stone. |

Blemish : |
An imperfection on the outside of a diamond. |
|
Brilliance : |
The concentration of light entering and leaving a diamond. |
|
Brilliant Cut : |
A Gemstone that has 56 total facets, 32 facets above the girdle, 24 in the pavilion. This cut maximizes the amount of reflected light from the stone. |

Carat : |
The global standard unit of weight for gemstones. One carat is equal to 0.20 grams. |
|
Channel : |
Several stones between a groove where all stone are at the same height with no metal in between the middle of the stones. |

Clarity : |
The clearness of a stone. The lack of flaws in a gemstone. Sky Facet's clarity scale runs from IF(Internally Flawless) to I1(Imperfect Grade 1). |

Cloud : |
A crowd of small pinpoints, only under powerful magnification may it be seen. Sky Facet does not sell diamonds with clouds that affect the brilliance of a diamond. |

Comfort : |
The inside of a ring is rounded giving minimal contact between your finger and the ring in a safe and secure manner. |

Common
Prong Set : |
Also known as a "shared prong" a common prong is when a set of prongs have the ability to hold two gemstones from one pair of prongs. |

Color : |
A system for sorting the amount of, or lack of color in a diamond. The global standard of diamond grading starts with a D-grade (Completely Colorless) goes to a Z-grade (Brown and Yellow). |

Crown : |
The upper portion of a diamond reaching from the table to above the girdle. |
|
Culet : |
The small facet located in the bottom tip of the pavilion. |
|
Corundum Mineral : |
one of the hardest minerals on Earth. |
|
Cushion Cut : |
A square shape that is rounded at the edges. |
|
Cut : |
The proportions and polish of a diamond. It is the deciding factor of how much a diamond will sparkle. It is also the only human influence for a diamond. |

Depth : |
The underside of a diamond that is between the girdle and culet. |
|
Depth Percentage : |
The percentage of depth. The ratio of the depth measured and width. |

Diameter : |
The width of a diamond as measured through the girdle. |
|
Diamond : |
Made of highly compressed carbon. One of the hardest known substance on earth with a hardness level of 10(scale is 1-10). |

Dispersion : |
When white light enters a diamond and an array of colors burst giving a special sparkle effect. Also known as the fire in a diamond. |

Dimension : |
The Measurement of a gemstones height and width. |

Emerald Cut : |
A gemstone that has a girdle that is rectangular with cut corners. |

Enhancements : |
Unnatural fixes done to a gemstone (Never found in a Sky Facet item). |

Eye Clean : |
Inclusions not able to be seen by the naked eye. |

Facet : |
A flat polished surface of a gemstone. |

Feather : |
An internal flaw in a gemstone that can start at the surface of a stone and extend |

Fire : |
An array of colors bursting out of a diamond. Depending on the cut, polish, and symmetry. |

Fluorescence : |
Property in which light is given off from a stone. Many stones get a blue glow from ultraviolet light. |

Four C's : |
The Cut, Carat, Color, and Clarity of gemstone. It is the global standard in which diamonds are graded by. |

Girdle : |
The widest perimeter of a gemstone. |
|
Gold : |
A precious metal that is very soft when in a pure 24kt form. Usually mixed with other metals to make it usable for every day wear. The purity of gold is measured in karats. 14kt consists of 58.3% pure gold; 18kt gold consists of 75% gold. |

Heart Shape Diamond : |
A fancy shape diamond that is meant to look like a Valentines Day heart. |

Inclusion : |
An internal clarity characteristic found in a diamond. |

Length to
With Ratio : |
An evaluation of the length to width and how it is seen when set. |

|
Make : |
The level or degree that a diamond has been cut. A good make should maximize the fire and brilliance of a diamond. |

Marquise
Shape : |
A fancy cut diamond where the sides are drawn out then meet at the end point of the stone. |

Master
Diamonds : |
A group of a diamonds with known Color and Clarity to which others are compared to. |
|
Milgrain : |
A straight beaded finish on an item. |
|
Millimeter : |
The unit of measure to determine a rings width. |

Naturals : |
A minuscule part of the original rough diamond that is the unpolished part on a polished diamond. Usually near the girdle or pavilion. |

Needle : |
A small extended crystal that resembles a small stick. |
|
|
|
Oval Shape Diamond : |
An elongated round shape with 58 facets. |
|
|
|
Pave : |
Beaded pieces of the setting metal on to the crown of a gemstone. |
|
Pavilion : |
The height of a gemstone, measured from the culet to the table. |
|
Pear Shape : |
58 facets, brilliant cut. Rounded top with a pointed end. |

Pinpoint : |
A small round inclusion on or near the surface of a diamond. |
|
Platinum : |
An incredibly strong and dense precious metal. All Sky Facet platinum consists of 95% pure platinum and 5% other metals. |

Polish : |
Refers to the quality of the outside of a diamond after the cutting process. |
|
Princess Cut : |
Square or rectangular modified brilliant cut. More frequently square it has either 50 or 58 facets. |
|
Prong Set : |
The stone is securely tightened on the girdle by evenly spaced metal supports that extend over the stone. |
|
Proportion : |
Refers to the angles and measurements of a polished diamond. Determines the optical properties of a diamond. |
|
Push Back Earring : |
The post on a push back has a small carving that uses tension and friction to hold the backing securely. |
|
|
|
Radiant Cut Diamond : |
Rectangular in shape with the corners cut off. Usually has about 58-70 facets. |
|
Rhodium : |
Often used to plate precious metals with a shiny white finish. |
|
Ruby : |
A precious stone that is a member of the corundum family. Range in colors from red, pink, and purple. |
|
|
|
Sapphire : |
A precious stone that is a member of corundum family. A sapphire is an extremely hard gemstone that is second only to diamonds. Range in colors from blue, yellow, green, pink, white, purple, and orange. |

Seamless : |
Tubing The process of which Sky Facet manufactures our wedding bands. |

Screw Back Earring : |
The post is threaded and the back insures the safety of the earrings by tightly keeping it in place. |

Shape : |
The outlined look of a cut and polished diamond. |
|
Side Stone : |
The stones set on the side of an item. Usually located on the side of a center stone in an engagement ring. |

Step Cut : |
Rectangular to square in shape and has many facets parallel to the edges of the stone. |

Symmetry : |
Grading term that refers to the shape and placement of facets. |
|

Table : |
Percentage How the diameter of the table compares to the entire diamond. |
|
Thickness : |
Refers to the height of the ring. |
|
|
|
Width : |
The measurement of the ring from one side to another usually measured in millimeters. |
|
White Gold : |
Gold that has been alloyed with a mix of nickel, zinc, copper, tin, and magnesium. |
