When you think of a pearl, you always envision that round white object being taken out of an oyster. Though natural pearls are produced this way, there are actually other methods to come up with them. There are also different kinds of pearls that you can choose from.
One of these is called Akoya pearls. These are the ones derived from Japan and are judged as either good or excellent quality. A lot of people think that these are natural pearls, but they are not. They are easy to spot since their colors range from rose to gold.
You also have freshwater pearls, which are less expensive than the Akoya pearls. They are usually produced in China. They also look like Akoya, but they have lesser luster.
The South Sea pearls are one of the most expensive kinds of pearls that you can choose from. This is because they are very rare and are grown right inside the pincatada oysters. They are also valued because of their high quality. A subtype of a South Sea pearl is the Tahitian pearl, which could be the rarest of them all. It is difficult for you to really find a black pearl. This one can be found in the Polynesia region such as in Tahiti. The colors are usually ebony, though they may also have a hint of green or purple.
